Classes

In the classroom of little children, there is a busy hum of activity! There is movement, concentration, work, socialization, and laughter. At the end of the day, most things are miraculously back in place, but the room does look as if it has been used. This is a “comfortable” type of neatness. The children love all types of work and take much pride in what they do. Little squeals of accomplishment are always heard throughout our classrooms.

The attitude of the classroom population is one of community. Every child is delightfully different, important, loved and offers a special gift to the school community. As Dr. Montessori said, “The education of even a very small child, therefore, does not only aim at preparing him for school but for life.”

The Montessori Primary Preschool Class
"Where the joy of learning thrives!"

The Primary Montessori Class offers two, three, and five-day programs for the young learner. This class offers a high quality of individual academic experience, administered with an enthusiastic but gentle approach. Each child receives daily individual lessons in reading and mathematics. The children love learning about a different continent and cultural interests each month. The monthly Montessori themes also include a famous artist, scientist, historical figure and poet. The classroom offers a variety of daily independent art activities. Children love the outside environment as well as games in the gym. Daily music and movement end each day.

The hours for the Primary Montessori Class are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There is also an Early Bird Class available from 8:20 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Children must be three years old and toilet trained to be eligible for enrollment. Children can join the school at any time during the school year if space is available.

The Children's Schoolhouse Montessori Kindergarten/ Preschool Junior Class
"Where children love to learn."

The Children’s Schoolhouse Montessori offers a challenging North Carolina State Recognized Kindergarten / Junior Class Program. This academically strong program offers the best of Montessori education with special emphasis on preparing a young learner for any future school environment. Children graduating from this program excel in other school settings.

Four-year-old children who are ready for more challenging curriculum are invited to join this class.

This is also the perfect program for children missing the cut-off date for public school. Our Kindergarten/Junior Class program allows these children to receive instruction and curriculum compatible with the next step of their developmental needs.

The focus of the more complex kindergarten curriculum and projects revolve around reading, language, math, biology, geography, physical science, and environmental awareness, history and art appreciation. The classrooms offer a variety of independent art activities. The children enjoy music and movement on a daily basis. A different Spanish theme is taught each month.

Lessons in reading and math are given on an individual basis.

The classroom community reflects an attitude of joy and respectful service within and without the school community.

Children may attend from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or join our extended day class until 2:30 p.m. There is also an Early Bird Program available from 8:20 a.m. to 9 a.m.
